Karnataka Engineering CET counselling Start (Revised) on July 7, 2010

Karnataka Engineering CET counselling Start (Revised) on July 7, 2010. The CET mess that stayed admissions to engineering colleges in the State seems to have ended.

Following AICTE’s promise on Wednesday to speed up its status list of technical institutions, the Karnataka government on Thursday announced that the counselling for engineering and architecture courses will begin on July 7.

Announcing the date, Karnataka Higher Education Minister Arvind Limbavali told mediapersons here that a fresh calendar of events would be brought out early next month. The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) would also work overtime to ensure that the courses start as per earlier scheduled — in the first week of September, he said. The KEA would work everyday from 7:30 am to 11 am and allot up to 2,800 seats a day as against the existing daily allotment limit of 2,000 seats.

The minister, who accompanied a team of officials from the State, including KEA Chief Administrative Officer S P Kulkarni and Department of Technical Education Director H U Talwar, met Union Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and AICTE in-charge Director S S Mantha to discuss the current CET mess. The team apprised the Centre of the urgency in bringing out the status list of the colleges in Karnataka so that the academic session begins on time. The Union Minister promised to address the issue, Limbavali said.

The minister also requested the AICTE to increase the lateral entry seats of polytechnic diploma holders to engineering courses from 10 per cent to 15 per cent. If accepted, 9,000 diploma holders could enter the second semester of engineering courses as against the existing 6,000.

The AICTE has to make clear the status of engineering colleges in every state, including their continuation, inclusion of new courses and increase in student intake, before the start of counselling. Karnataka, which had planned to start counselling on June 18, had to put it off for want of this clearance. (Source: Deccan Herald)
